The Melanesian Arts and Culture Festival (MACFEST) committee announced the winner and composer of the 7th MACFEST song yesterday, awarding Solomon Islander, Mrs. Minado Kemuel a prize of VT200,000.

Mrs. Kemuel’s piece emerged outstanding out of seven other songwriters, capturing the hearts of the judging panel with her exceptional composition.

A doctor by profession, Mrs. Kemuel revealed her passion for songwriting, particularly in the realm of church music.

Overjoyed by her win, she expressed her gratitude for the opportunity to be a part of the festival. She highlighted the significance of MACFEST in reviving and preserving customs and traditions.

According to Len Tafau, the MACFEST Marketing and Communications officer, the judging panel commended Mrs. Kemuel’s winning song for its outstanding harmony and the smooth blend of traditional sounds within the lyrics.

Notably, the composition provides a platform for artists to effortlessly showcase their talent.

This week, the MACFEST committee plans to produce the winning song and arrange for the recording of the participating artists in a studio.

The committee took the opportunity to extend their appreciation to all participants who contributed to the song competition. Additionally, individuals who submitted their samples will be invited to the studio to explore potential collaborations.
