Curfew for the Honiara emergency zone, including the restriction of entry into the Honiara boundary, have been lifted and now cease to exist.

Prime Minister, Manasseh Sogavare signed the orders to have these restrictions ceased recently.

The update was made by the Attorney General John Muria Jr during the oversight committee’s talkback show on the national broadcaster, SIBC, over the weekend.

However, the Attorney General reminds the public that orders relating to COVID-19 public safety measures within Honiara’s emergency zone are still in place.

The lockdown of the emergency zone in late January 2022 was made necessary after Honiara became the hotspot for COVID-19 community transmission.

While the lockdown has since been lifted, people outside of the emergency zone were banned from entering.

A curfew was also imposed for those within the emergency zone from 12 midnight to 6am, which has now since been lifted.
