A day after the Prime Minister issued a directive for all frontline workers to come forward for vaccination the number of people vaccinated on day 4 doubled compared to the first 3 days last week.
On the first 3 days just over 200 people received their initial vaccination, this is compared to day 4 where over 400 people were vaccinated. It is expected that the numbers will continue to increase in the coming days.
As of day 4, the combined total number of people vaccinated stands at 1065 people, health workers accounted for the largest number of vaccinated persons with 34 percent (399) of the total followed by the Royal Solomon Islands Police Force (RSIPF) frontline, 18 percent, airport staff 6 percent, customs 2.3 percent, immigration 2.1, and hotel staff 1.4 percent.
The remaining percentage are those 55 years and above with underlying health conditions, leaders and other public figures.
Day four of vaccination also showed that over 700 males and 300 plus females received their first dose of the COVID-19 AstraZeneca vaccine.
The Ministry of Health will continue to roll out the vaccines in Honiara as per its roll out plan. Priority is being given to COVID-19 frontline workers and persons 55 years and above with underlying health conditions.
As the vaccination progresses in Honiara the order of priority groups will also be revised and amended accordingly and any changes will be communicated to the public.
The Ministry of Health reiterates that the COVID-19 AstraZeneca vaccine is safe and effective against COVID-19 as it has been listed for emergency use by WHO.
