Solomon Islands has recorded 258 new COVID-19 cases over the past 48 hours. The cumulative total COVID-19 cases for the country since the outbreak now stands at 9,758.

Health Minister, Dr Culwick Togamana, gave the update during his COVID-19 situation update on the national broadcaster, SIBC.

Of the 258 positive cases, 61 are recorded in Honiara, 3 in Malaita, 59 in West, 10 in Choiseul, 21 in Isabel, and 48 in Makira.

There are no new cases to report in Central. Rennell Bellona will continue tests and reporting once health workers recover from COVID-19. Temotu remains COVID-19 free to date.

The Health Minister has pointed out that most of the cases recorded in Honiara are from swabs collected from passengers coming in from the provinces when restrictions eased.

The Health Minister says health clinics and hospitals in the provinces have been equipped with the necessary medical supplies to manage localized outbreaks. He says most of the provinces that had experienced a surge in cases soon after Honiara are now showing signs of easing, with cases reported slowly declining.
