The Constitutional Reform Unit in the Office of the Prime Minister will hold the Constitutional Congress Induction next week from Monday 20th to Friday 24th at the Mendana Hotel.
The Constitutional Congress Induction Workshop is convened for Constitutional Congress members and is set to bring together 56 participants which comprises of 2 provincial nominees from each of the 9 provinces, including 2 from the Honiara City Council and also national nominees who form the Elders Advisory Group.According to Reginald Teutao of the Constitutional Reform Unit, the workshop is going to be one of the biggest gatherings ever in the country since Independence.
He pointed out that the Induction Programme is to prepare the Constitutional Congress, as well as the Elders Advisory Group, for the task of Constitutional Making which will come later after the Induction Workshop.
Mr. Teutao revealed that the most important event in the course of the workshop will be the opening function on Monday which will be attended by both the Prime Minister, Manasseh Sogavare, and Governor General, Sir Nathaniel Waena.
As Teutao explained: "The most important formality during the function is when the Prime Minister hands over responsibility for the Constitutional Making Process to the Constitutional Congress for and on behalf of the people and communities in Solomon Islands".
Mr. Teutao said that following the launch of the Constitutional Congress in June by the Prime Minister, work has now begun and this workshop is evident of that process and progress.
