A city-wide clean up campaign will take place in Honiara.

Honiara City Council (HCC) Chairman, Tom Lolemae, told a press conference that the clean up campaign is officially on 30th October.

HCC has engaged RAMSI and youth groups around the capital to distribute five thousand plastic bags to be used on the day.

The one-day clean up campaign will be mobilized around the sub-ways, by-ways and high-ways in and around Honiara.

"The clean up day is a time set aside to beatify the capital, purposely to attract tourists back on our shores," Mr. Lolemae said.

He said that successive committees, although having given attention to 'Keep Honiara Clean' campaign, received little participation from various communities.

"We need to put a stop to the carelessness that has contributed in our town being branded dirty capital," Mr. Lolemae said.

He told the press conference that a legislation act will soon be in place to fine individuals on the spot caught throwing rubbish in public.

As part of the campaign, the HCC will search around residences around Honiara to remove damaged vehicles.
