The Church of Melanesia is planning to set up its own university in the Solomon Islands.

Project Manager of the proposed university, Phillip Kapini says the Church already has the Solomon Islands government support to set up the institution.

Kapini stated that a task force committee, consisting of government, private sector and Anglican Church representatives, has already met to discuss ways of driving the project forward.

The Anglican Church intends to offer theology and education as part of its University Programme.

It is understood that the Church of Melanesia has secured 200 hectares of land in North Guadalcanal. The landowners have agreed to the use of the land for the university.
