China's Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Zhao Lijan says China is confident that under Prime Minister Manasseh Sogavare’s leadership, the government of Solomon Islands can restore social order and stability soon.
Zhao Lijan made the statement when asked about the situation in Solomon Islands by the AFP during his regular press conference on November 25, 2021.
"China is closely monitoring the latest developments in Solomon Islands. We support the government’s efforts to end violence and chaos.
"We are confident that under Prime Minister Manasseh Sogavare’s leadership, the government of Solomon Islands can restore social order and stability soon," the China Foreign Ministry Spokesperson said.
He says they are gravely concerned over the attacks on Chinese citizens and enterprises, and have asked the local government to take all measures necessary to protect the safety of Chinese nationals and institutions.
"I also want to stress that the one-China principle is a basic norm governing international relations.
"Over the past two years or so since the establishment of diplomatic ties between China and Solomon Islands, bilateral relations have enjoyed sound development with fruitful outcomes in various areas including economy, trade, infrastructure, education and health, delivering tangible benefits to people in both countries."
He says all attempts to disrupt the normal development of relations between China and Solomon Islands are just futile.
