The Australian High Commission office will remain open for business and has no plans to suspend its operations in Solomon Islands.

This clarification came amidst rumors that all Australians are being recalled back to their country.

But a response from the Australian High Commission Office said, while some of Australia’s bilateral development programs may be interrupted, the High Commission Office in Honiara is carrying on its operations as usual.

However, the office said partners that Australia uses to operationalise some of their support are likely to feel compelled to pull back staff from overseas assignments.

It is understood the Australian Volunteers International (AVI) is one of such establishment that has pulled its members out from Solomon Islands.

The Australian Government is currently working with contractors to determine what can be done to keep essential positions in country.
