A two days ‘Boxing Foundation Course’ is underway at Solomon Islands National Institute of Sport (SINIS), starting yesterday, Wednesday.

The course targeting community Boxing Coaches is to prepare them for the next level of coaching course that ‘Oceania Boxing Confederation’ is said to be coming to the country to conduct on a later date.

In order for the coaches to technically communicate well at the upper level Oceania accredited course, SINIS Coach Developer under Portfolio 1 (Combat Sports), Jeffery Pasio said it is good that they (SINIS) are preparing them on this foundation level.

“Not only about that, but also we are trying to develop them in the Solomon Islands national sports pathway of the coaches. This is to start on the foundation play level, participate up to the performance pathway and going up to professional or elite stage. It is one of the works of SINIS to develop coaches through that pathway,” said Pasio.

Attendance comprised of very senior boxing coaches as a total of 27 participants turned up for the foundation course. Coach Developer Pasio said three boxing coaches attending were from provinces while the others are from clubs in Honiara and federations.

“We expected 30 participants but three did not turn up due other commitments,” said Pasio.

Day two of the course continues tomorrow Thursday as participants are expected to receive certificates after the training.
