The Australian Government, through the Direct Aid Program (DAP), is pleased to fund eight new community-led projects in the first half of this financial year (2020-2021).
On 4 December Third Secretary and DAP Manager, Laura Wilson, congratulated the successful applicants during a handover ceremony at the Australian High Commission. The eight funded projects in this round are from across Solomon Islands, including Isabel, Guadalcanal, Western, Choiseul, Malaita and Temotu Provinces.
"In line with Australia’s COVID-19 Development Response, the DAP team prioritised project applications which helped build COVID-19 resilience, particularly in the education, health and sanitation sectors.
"We also considered which projects would benefit disadvantaged groups such as women, youth and people with disability, as well as those from remote and isolated communities," a prepared statement reads.
The project coordinators and community representatives for each project thanked the Australian Government for the support. Third Secretary, Laura Wilson, wished the project coordinators all the best with the implementation of their projects and reminded representatives that projects must be for the benefit of the whole community, not individual families.
DAP applications are available free of charge on our website or can be picked up from the Australian High Commission in Honiara.
