“As technology improves we must ensure that it is inclusive and accessible for all women too,” says Australia Awards alumna and University of Sydney Computer Science and Information Technology (USYD) graduate Beatrice Keni.

This #IWD we celebrate Solomon Islands women in ICT, such as Beatrice, with the theme ‘#DigitALL Innovation and technology for gender equality’.

“My name is Beatrice Keni, I am from Malaita Province and studied at USYD through an AustraliaAwards Scholarship.

"I studied a Bachelor of Computer Science and Information Technology as I was interested in the way technology could be used to solve problems. I now work as an IT Officer at the Development Bank of Solomon Islands.

"Technology is a big part of our lives today and women should be supported to access digital education and access to technologies, as women are huge contributors to our economy and society,” said Beatrice.

While studying in Sydney, Australia Beatrice enjoyed visiting famous landmarks such as the Sydney Opera House and national parks.

“Studying in Australia is a wonderful opportunity to learn in a multicultural environment and gain skills and knowledge to benefit your career and contribute to Solomon Islands development,” said Beatrice.
