The Makira Ulawa Provincial Premier says the newly built provincial chamber, is the first modern Assembly Chamber to be owned by the province in it's 29 year old provincial history.

Premier, Thomas Weape made these remarks last Friday during the province's 29th Second Appointed anniversary celebrations in the provincial capital, Kirakira.

Mr Weape says the project, funded under the Provincial Governance Strengthening Programme, is worth around 1.3 million dollars, and will be the venue for the 2012 Premiers Conference and will remain a permanent asset of the province.

The celebration was attended by the Member of Parliament for East Makira Alfred Ghiro, MP for Ulawa Ugi, James Tora, a delegation lead by the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Provincial Government, provincial assembly members of Makira Ulawa Province and the people of the province.

Premier Thomas Weape says his government is concerned over the delay by the Ministry of Aviation and Communication to kick start the Kira Kira Airport project.

He says the surface of the airport runway is deteriorating faster in wet condition and is concerned for the safety of the other Provincial Premiers who will be travelling to Kirakira in October for the premiers conference.
