The Chair of the Commission of enquiry into the April riots, Brian Brunton, announced the release of the first Interim Report yesterday.

This is the first interim report for the Commission following its establishment by Prime Minister Sogavare.

The report has revealed certain factors contributing to the unrest in April. The Report ascertained that certain suggestions by some witnesses that the outbreak of the violence at Parliament house was a reaction to the PPFs use of either flash-grenades or tear-gas conflicts with other evidence.

It says television footage show that the behavior of the crowd before the announcement by Governor General of Snyder Rini was already quite hostile, also stone throwing by the crowd occurred well before the use of tear gas or flash grenades.
