The Royal Solomon Islands Police Force (RSIPF) make its 10th deployment of police officers to the common border between Solomon Islands (SI) and Papua New Guinea (PNG) on 10 January 2021.
The deployment is part of the ongoing operation to support the leading agencies at the border between SI-PNG to fight against COVID-19 since the declaration of the State of Public Emergency on 25 March 2020.
Supervising Assistant Commissioner (AC) National Capital and Crime Prevention, Chief Superintendent Alfred Uiga says, “Officers are deployed to the border to enforce the emergency powers on the restrictions of movement of small craft vessels between our borders.”
AC Uiga says, “If any vessel enters Solomon Islands border the team will deal with them or it is advisable to immediately leave Solomon waters by moving back from the border.”
Supervising AC Uiga says, “I call on my good people from Shortland Islands, Choiseul and Malaita Out Islands to observe this order. Do not disobey the orders, as the penalties are severe. I also appeal to my good people in the Western border region to report to the rightful authorities of any sighting of any vessels at the borders.”
Chief Superintendent Uiga adds. “Be reminded that we still under the State of Public Emergency for at least three months. Let us take this seriously and continue to follow what the government wants us citizens to do to prevent us from COVID-19 by crossing the borders.”
