Honiara City now has a newly elected Lord Mayor, he is Andrew Mua, councilor for Ngossi ward, West Honiara constituency.

The election of Mr Mua, who polled 12 votes ahead of his only rival Dwayne Tigulu who polled 4, marks an end to weeks of uncertainty.

The Ministry of Home Affairs had to first seek legal advice on the matter, a second gazette order from the Minister of Home Affairs made it possible for the election to proceed.

The Second gazette also provides a process in the event of a tie in voting.

The Former City Lord Mayor, Alfred Maetia was ousted in a successful no confidence vote earlier this month.

Only 16 of the 20 elected and appointed councilors took part in yesterdays vote.
