People of Kavua village on Small Ngella, Central Islands Province, says goodbye to long walks for fresh water with the approval of water supply project from the European Union's Micro Project.
The village that has a population of more than 700 people celebrated the official hand over of the project last Friday.People of the village for years haven't had a water supply and only used streams and wells for drinking and washing.
A celebration was in place to welcome a 14-member delegation present in the village to witness the hand-over to the people of Kavua village.
Among guests was His Excellency the British High Commissioner, Timothy Smart, the guest of honour, Jane Waitara, Permanent Secretary the Ministry of Development Planning and Aid Coordination and Project Monitoring Officers and Coordinators from the E-U Micro Projects team.
Coordinator of the Kavua Water Supply Project, Father Jimmy Bosamata, said the water supply would now ease the struggles of the village women and children - "the ones always going around searching for clean water."
He thanked the EU for its kind contribution in accepting their humble request for a water supply.
"Water is life. It promotes livelihood in the village... and it is a new step forward for us because now we won't have to walk 20 minutes every day to fetch fresh water," he said.
A feast and presentations of gifts to invited guests followed the hand-over before the delegation departed for Honiara.
