A senior government Minister revealed that a SBD$50,000 (US$7143.00) cash bribe was allegedly offered to him by the Opposition camp.
The Minister was alleged to have been offered the bribe by an agent of the leader of Opposition Wednesday this week with the intention of luring the Minister into the Opposition group. The Minister turned up at the Prime Minister's office and handed over the money to Prime Minister Sogavare just before a cabinet meeting yesterday. Mr Sogavare was disappointed with such leadership style by national parliamentarians saying such people should quit politics. "Any sensible leader should stop harassing the government with such evil strategies," he said.
The Prime Minister warned that people who are involved in such evil practices have no place in the country. "If foreigners are involved in such disgusting practices - the first thing is to put them on the first plane and send them away and if locals are involved, their rightful place is at the Rove prison," he said.
The Prime Minister will formally report the matter to police for further investigations today.
