Excitement is in the air at the Solomon Islands' capital as preparation takes place for this year's Solo Idol music competition.Solomon Times caught up with a representative of the organizing committee who said the show this year will be "a little bit different".
The representative said winner for this competition will be doing promotional work with various organizations, in particular the NGOs that help in funding this year's show.
Solomon Times gathered that the winner will be taking on the stance of an ambassador to youths in the Solomons.
Provincial tours will be arranged for the winner to do visits to give educational awareness talks on various issues.
"We want to give the people in the rural the opportunity to meet this year's Solo Idol winner," the representative said.
To add heat to the hype for this year's show is the involvement of the 2004 Australian Idol, Harley Jensen.
Solomon Times was told that Ms. Jensen will be in the country at the final rounds of the top ten singers for this year's competition.
"Ms. Jensen will be conducting a workshop with the finalists," the organizing committee representative revealed.
Solomon Times was told that another new initiative is including potentials from each province.
"We are looking into possibilities of involving at least three representatives from each province to participate in the competition," the representative said.
Solomon Times understands that registration for this year's Solo Idol is now open and the first round will commence on the 6th of July.
