A 17 year old girl is currently being held by the Royal Solomon Islands Police Force (RSIPF) for the alleged abortion of her infant child.
RSIPF Criminal Investigating Officer (PCIO) in Guadalcanal Province, Inspector Hughes Nevol says, “My officers at the Henderson Police Station were alerted in the early hours of Friday, 19 July 2019, last week about a dead infant found by locals in the Moto Pool area, Henderson.”
“It is a very sad thing to discover the body of a dead infant which from our initial enquiries reveal that it was buried there by someone. The dead body is currently at the Honiara National Referral morgue for medical examination. It is believed to be between six to seven months old,” says PCIO Nevol.
He says, “My deepest condolence to the relatives of the dead infant.”
“The suspected 17-year-old mother of the dead infant is currently under counselling before police will be able to interview her,” says PCIO Nevol.
Police have visited the location where the dead infant was buried as part of the investigation into this sad incident.
