The Ministry of Culture and Tourism will be taking up the task to give the domestic terminal a complete face-lift after years of its scruffy and filthy image.
Speaking with the Ministry's Senior Tourism Officer, Jonathan Taisia, he said that the office will be taking the lead in giving a face-lift to the domestic airport and will be working closely with the civil aviation.Solomon Times was told that the Civil Aviation has a two-year plan for the domestic airport, "which is a long time so the responsible Minister, Hon. Seth Gukuna, is pushing for the face-lift to begin".
The renovation will be more focused on re-furnishing, sanitation of the departure lounge and upgrading the check-in area.
"The face-lift is going to be a message to the general public that the Ministry is doing something to create a new image in the tourism industry," Mr. Taisia said.
The renovation costs a total of SBD$300,000 given by the Ministry, and work has been scheduled to kick-start this week.
"The finance sector is our only setback and the Minister is pushing the Ministry of Finance to speed up granting of fund so that work can start," Mr. Taisia said.
