World Vision Solomon Islands (WVSI) and Kastom Gaden Association (KGA) solidified their commitment to strengthening food security in Makira through a signed Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) this week in Honiara.
The signing ceremony saw WVSI National Director Jimmy Nadapdap and KGA Chairman Frank Tabai formalize the partnership.
The MOU paves the way for WVSI to sub-grant KGA for implementing the Nature Based Opportunities Underpinning Resilient and Sustainable Households (NOURISH) project's Livelihood program in Makira, with a specific focus on Climate-Smart Agriculture.
KGA's recognition as a leading local NGO promoting organic backyard gardening practices played a key role in forging this collaboration. These methods are believed to not only enhance food security by making it more resilient to climate change but also empower farmers to generate income through their harvests.
The partnership takes a comprehensive approach to bolstering food security in Makira. KGA will contribute their expertise in Climate-Smart Agriculture and set up food production sites, while WVSI will offer financial assistance and capacity-building support.
This collaborative effort will empower Makira communities by fostering knowledge-sharing and teamwork. Ultimately, the partnership aims to improve livelihoods through the identification and cultivation of climate-resistant crops, ensuring long-term food security in the face of climate change.
This successful partnership between WVSI and KGA underscores the power of collaboration between international NGOs and local organizations. By combining their resources and expertise, they can empower communities in Makira to become more resilient to climate change and build a more sustainable future for themselves.
