The Officials Core Ministerial Committee of the Government Services Integration Committee (GSIC) on Pacific Games 2023, held its first meeting last Friday to review the Ministries preparations and plans for the upcoming Pacific Games 2023.
The Officials Core Ministerial Committee comprises of the Office of the Prime Minister and Cabinet as the Lead Coordinating Ministry, Ministry of Foreign Affairs and External Trade, Ministry of Finance and Treasury, Ministry of Infrastructure and Development, Ministry of National Planning and Development Coordination and Ministry of Home Affairs. Also in attendance were the National Hosting Authority (NHA) and the Honiara City Council (HCC).
The Chair of the GCIS is the Deputy Secretary to Prime Minister, Dr Derick Mane.
The Chair stated that with the Pacific Games in two years’ time, in 2023, it is important that all Government Ministries work together and help support the Government and NHA to successfully deliver the Pacific Games.
“We will be taking a whole of Government approach to support the delivery of the Pacific Games, hence need the support of all Government Ministries and all stakeholders”, says Chair, Dr Derick Mane.
He re-iterated that the principal purpose of the GSIC is to mobilize a “whole of Government’ commitment and support to help the government deliver on its mission to successfully host the 2023 Pacific Games.
“The GSIC being an integral part of the GOC will report to and assist the GOC on behalf of the NHA. It will also advise the NHA directly on areas that it may require the support of the respective ministries and departments represented in the committee’, says the Chair.
Meanwhile, Secretary of the GSIC in the Office of the Prime Minister and Cabinet, National Consultant, Bernard Bataanisia, added that the Ministries have all been divided into eleven cluster Groups, looking after different aspects of work and tasks relating to the Pacific Games.
“Currently, we are holding consultation meetings with Ministries, including NHA and HCC to see which different areas of work, tasks and responsibilities that needs to be work on before the Games, and to support the NHA and GOC in the overall preparations,” says Mr. Bataanisia.
