I am a descendant of Malau Norua from the island of Malaita who came to Fiji during the Blackbirding era. I had previously traced my grandfather's relatives through a Solomon Island friend, Dalcy Boso, who studied with me at Nasinu Teachers College in 1978. A relative, Ariel Famaea, who at that time was an officer in the Solomon Island Education Department, was able to come and visit us here in Fiji but we have since lost contact.
I am writing a historical article based on the arrival of Solomon Islanders to Rotuma Island during the Blackbirding era. This article is a unit in our revised texts for the study of Rotuman language in Primary schools in Fiji. I wish to get in touch with my relatives there because this article will feature my grandfather, Malau Norua, and I want to include details of his parents and siblings, village name then & now if names of places have changed.
I would be extremely grateful if anyone with knowledge or information of my grandfather or his relatives or the people I have mentioned above could contact me through this column.
Thank you and I look forward to positive results.
