Dear Editor,
The growing tuna industry in the Solomon's is enjoying dolphin safe status and exporting more tuna to EU and later to US.
The continued dolphin safe status of the western province assists Soltuna and others operating in the province. The govt has banned exports of dolphins for captivity since Jan. 2012 and is to be commended for this action. Frabelle and other large tuna companies are still seeking to invest since the ban is holding. Earth Island commends this for better jobs for the country.
We hope that Malaita will follow the lead and protect dolphins while working with the tuna industry to develop a sustainable fishery in that province. As long as dolphins are slaughtered in Malaita there will be no tuna investment and tourism will continue to suffer.
Sincerely
Mark Berman
