Dear Editor,

As we journey through life, there are only a few occasions in which we are rewarded. Some are rewarded in the education field, the sporting arena while others are rewarded for their service to their country and people. The latter is the category where Ms Catherine Anilafa falls.

I extend a hearty congratulations to Ms Anilafa for being the recipient of the United States sponsored 2010 International Women of Courage Award. In her service to the disability community and the people of Solomon Islands, Ms Anilafa has displayed, courage, strength and leadership. She is the epitome of selflessness and service. I must therefore thank the United States for recognising Ms Anilafa's work among our handicapped community for it is a deserving one.

In recognizing the courage with which she has served our disability community let me quote from the World icon Nelson Mandela, "I learned that courage was not the absence of fear, but the triumph over it. The brave man is not he who does not feel afraid, but he who conquers that fear".

I take my hat off to you Ms Catherine Anilafa for your selfless service.
