Artemether is a perfect drug to treat malaria provided the dosis given is correct. Combining artemether with another longer acting drug will reduce the risk for creating resistance to artemether. Artemether for intramuscular injection is very popular for treating acute malaria. When the acute period is over patients can switch to oral therapy. A combination with lumefantrine is only one option. There are several other combinations available and some of those are probably superior to Coartem.
