Dear Editor,
I would like to thank Mr John Iko for correcting an oversight I made in a previous article I posted in here in relation to the role of LCC.
Indeed, with the 1999 amendment of the LCC Act the powers of LCC have now been extended giving it a direct connection to the courts, in terms of referal and redress. However, I as far as I can remember, and I stand to be corrected, that since its enforcement this particular vital provision of the Act has never been tested, hence the lack of awareness of it by the general population.
But I do thank John for that correction and hope that with this amendment- the extended powers of LCC - the body is now equiped with a mechanism that can be effectively used to scrutinise the work of our leaders.
Role of LCC-
