Dennis lets address the issue. I for one welcome Radclif's comment because it is directed at the issue not the people. Our custom is based on common sense. As Radclif mentioned, custom can be abused and I am afraid that is the case in most instances nowadays.
You've rightly mentioned that the killing was done by the British during their admin. Thus, if the compo claim is on the basis of your kwaio custom (which is not alien at all to me) to heal the wounds, then it is an abuse. To know why, just answer this simple quesion.
In you kwaio custom, can you claim compo from a person who is innocent of the act?
