Dear Editor,
It sounds ridiculous reading about the views and suggestons of female extremists on reserving a few seats for women in parliament.
I truly sympathise with women in their endeavour to deserve a place in parliament, provided it is accomplished on the basis of meritocracy. And that is what democracy is all about. Otherwise these are socialist phenomena creeping into Solomon Islands democratic system.
The proposition to reserve 10 seats in parliament for women may go down well with those from Guadalcanal or Isabel. However, this will be met with fierce critcism from other patrilineal societies in the country.
The message is simple. "Meritocracy". The seats are there waiting, but you need to prove yourself competent for that and convince everyone. Otherwise, do not just sit there begging in vain.
