The Solomon Islands still has some of the best fishing in the world but the truth is the world does not have many fish left.
The favourite hobby for some people reveals patience is now required in SI. See: http://www.solomontimes.com/news.aspx?nwID=3219
Previously patience was not required and the hobby did not really exist in SI because free fish was caught almost every day to feed the family. Easily catching fish was a way of living, for children a game or hunting with fishing bow and arrows.
It is important at this time to be sure there are not a lot of fish anymore compared to say 40 years ago. Ask older people what the fishing was like before and what it's like now in comparison.
At this point in time in SI it is dangerous to lose sight of changes in staple food supply that have already taken place. Without knowing how traditional fish supply has declined and without solutions the situation of serious and general fish depletion that already exists will dramatically worsen.
