PM Philip Hails New Zealand's Assistance Programs

Prime Minister Danny Philip has hailed New Zealand for its ongoing cooperation and assistance programs to Solomon Islands.

Sikua Opens Fiji Mission

Care-taker Prime Minister Dr Derek Sikua has officially opened the Solomon Islands Mission to Fiji with the unveiling of a plaque, in Suva, yesterday morning.

Sikua Opens Fiji Mission Speaking at the event, Prime Minister Sikua said the formal establishment of the chancery office is a significant milestone after thirty years of formal diplomatic relations between Solomon Islands and Fiji. He said Fiji is a very "strategic location for the region and the country views the role of the Suva mission as having three purposes, including the purpose of protecting the interests of Solomon Islands citizens and providing consular services to them, working or studying in Fiji." Sikua Praises Pacific-Arab Summit

Solomon Islands Prime Minister, Dr, Derek Sikua, has described the Pacific-Arab Summit as a historic event and a unique opportunity for Pacific Island countries to exchange views and dialogue with the Arab World on the prospects for cooperation between the two regions.

He said it is historic and unique because it is the first time that Pacific Island Countries and Arab World Leaders have met to discuss potential areas for cooperation between both regions. Dr. Sikua also paid tribute to the Government of the United Arab Emirates for its vision behind the Pacific Partnership Program initiative, which the UAE Foreign Minister launched when he visited the Pacific Island countries including Solomon Islands, early this year. Signature to Cotonou Strengthens Relationship

Solomon Islands' Minister of Planning and Aid Coordination, Hon. Steve Abana last week signed the Second Revised Cotonou Agreement in a historic event in Ouagadougou, Burkina Faso, at the close of the 35th Session of the ACP-EU Council of Ministers.

Signature to Cotonou Strengthens Relationship Mr Abana was amongst the first ACP leaders to sign the revised agreement in a colorful event witnessed by hundreds of ministers, ambassadors and senior officials from the ACP and EU countries.
