Hat-trick for Kurukuru

The Solomon Islands have claimed their third consecutive OFC Futsal Championship at Suva's Vodafone Arena on Saturday, finishing above runners-up Fiji and New Zealand who took third.

Hat-trick for Kurukuru Dickson Kadau's side concluded the round-robin competition in style with a 21-2 win over Tuvalu which almost matched the tournament record of 23-1 set by the Futsalroos over Samoa back in 1996 when Australia was still part of OFC. Kurukuru sensation Elliot Ragomo showed why he is one of the best in the region, scoring seven goals in his final match to claim the OFC Golden Boot Award just ahead of teammate Micah Lea'alafa. Kadau Names Kurukuru Futsal Squad

National Futsal Team Head Coach, Dickson Kadau, has released the names of the 12 players who will be travelling to Fiji for the Oceania Football Confederation (OFC) Futsal Championship.

Kadau Names Kurukuru Futsal Squad His announcement comes as the team goes through the final preparations before heading for the regional championships which kicks off on August 9th in Suva, Fiji. A 16 man squad was announced in April after the trials involving the 24 strong training squad selected from the Our Telekom National Futsal Championship held in March. Kurukuru Goes Down Fighting

The National Futsal Team went down fighting against Asian powerhouse Iran in their final match at the Alfateh Intercontinental Futsal Championship in Libya.

The Iranians had obviously studied Kurukuru's game and relied on counter attacks and set plays to catch the youngsters. Their strategy worked well and they comfortably won by 6 goals to nil. Kurukuru was in control in the first three minutes of the game carefully guarding its possession and looking for a way in. Micah Lea'alafa almost scored quite early in the game but his shot went just wide. In the 4th minute Iran used a set play to go 1 ahead in the tussle. Kurukuru Goes Down to Libya

The young Kurukuru side lost to hosts Libya in their first match but made for themselves a heroic introduction at the Alfateh Intercontinental Futsal cup.

The island boys went as far as leading the hosts by 3 - 1 at one stage in the game. The game started with both teams going at each other neck to neck both in attack and in defence. Kurukuru Flies to Compete in Libya

Solomon Islands National Futsal Team 'Kurukuru' left Honiara yesterday heading to Libya for the Alfetah Continental Futsal Cup.

Kurukuru Flies to Compete in Libya The Frangipani Ice sponsored 'ice-cream' team will be away for 2 weeks to attend what is dubbed locally as the confederations cup for Futsal. Speaking to the SIFF Media Office before their departure the Kurukuru Head Coach, Dickson Kadau, said that his boys are confident and they look forward to starting their campaign in Libya.
