Police Commissioner Meets Tongan Officials

The Police Commissioner says he is pleased to have met with two Tongan senior officials who arrived after a shooting incident which resulted in the death of a man at Titinge in Honiara.

Peter Marshall says he has had positive meetings with Tonga's Solicitor General and the Deputy Head of the Tongan Defence Force relating to investigation into the Titinge incident. Mr Marshall says with more knowledge and understanding on the circumstances that led to the shooting the two officials will make recommendations to the Tongan cabinet. He says police is waiting with interest on the outcome of a decision from the Tongan Cabinet about the immunity of its soldiers who were involved in the incident. RSIPF Titinge Investigation Update

The Royal Solomon Islands Police Force investigation into the incident that occurred at Titinge on 12 August 2010 is progressing well with a dedicated team of detectives investigating the incident.

The investigation headed by the Director of RSIPF National Criminal Investigations Division (NCID) have interviewed and obtained statements from a number of witnesses. Commissioner of Police, Peter Marshall, commended the detectives who have been working extensively on this investigation and thanked them for the hard work that they have put in to the enquiry so far. RSIPF Investigate Titinge Fatality

Police attended at an incident in the early hours of yesterday morning at the location of Titinge Village where there were reports of a disturbance between two parties.

RSIPF Investigate Titinge Fatality Police confirmed that on arrival at the scene, members of the RSIPF along with their PPF counterparts were assessing the situation and attempting to resolve the issue when they and their vehicles were targeted with rocks and were forced to retreat. The incident escalated to a point where firearms were discharged by two Tongan Military personnel. The RSIPF are now investigating the death of one Solomon Island male, aged in his 30's. Death at Titinge Ridge

The Royal Solomon Island Police Force has confirmed that there has been one death as a result of an incident at Titinge in the early hours of this morning.

RSIPF confirmed in a statement that an investigation has commenced and that RAMSI are providing assistance. RSIPF Commissioner Peter Marshall, with Deputy Commissioners Walter Kola and Wayne Buchhorn are currently involved in a briefing with the Solomon Islands Cabinet that commenced at 10am. Lucky Escape for Driver

Police are urging public drivers to take more precautions to help prevent accidents, after a car was in flamed at China Town area yesterday afternoon.

Lucky Escape for Driver Deputy Director National Traffic Centre, Sergeant Sipolo highlighted that traffic accidents in Honiara have been steadily increasing as a result of carelessness or negligence of Police regulations and traffic road safety rules.
