A group of young people are taking the initiative to do general clean up around Honiara city.

The Family Federation for World Peace Youth group is a combination of locals along with Australian and New Zealand youths.

Youth leader, Jerome Bellavance said that the youths come from different organizations.

"We come together to work as a youth group to promote peace by providing free service," says Mr. Bellavance.

He said the choice to start with cleaning around the hospital is "because we see it as a common place for all Solomon Islanders".

Mr. Bellavance said that the works done are part of support projects for the Global Youth Festival and the first to be done in the country.

The young group will move on to clean up the multipurpose hall after the job is done around the hospital premises.

"These are a group of young people who want to involve themselves in anything that serves for peace activities," Mr. Bellavance said.

Apart from cleaning around Honiara, the youth group also involve themselves in small projects, awareness programs on HIV/AIDS and character education in every island nations.
