More than 300 local artists and performers will have an opportunity to show case their talents and skills in the Youth-Quake festival which opens today in Honiara.
As part of the independence celebrations, the Youth Quake is being hosted by the Honiara City Council Youth, Sports and Women Affairs division in partnership with the AusAid funded Community Sector program and Live and Learn.Ben Kilsby from the City Council Youth division says the festival is about promoting the different cultures in Honiara and getting young people to understand each other's different backgrounds.
A parade began from Lawson Tama sports field this morning followed by the official opening ceremony near the old Art Gallery. The concerts will be staged at the Town ground sports field.
Mr Kilsby says there will be art market stalls, food stalls and on the main stage different music bands will put on performances.
He says there will also be pan pipe and traditional custom demonstrations, as well as drama groups.
