This Youth Award was initiated by CNURA government to recognize young people who have contributed to the good of the society.According to the Deputy Prime Minister, the country's 60% of the population are youths and there are many who have stood out and are not often recognized and appreciated.This Youth Award will come under the programmes of the Youth Department in the Ministry for Women, Youth and Children.The Youth Development Officer for the Ministry of Women, Youth and Children Affairs, Denton Enriko said that nominations are now open for every youth in Solomon Islands to participate.According to Mr. Enriko, there are criterias for the award and when someone is eligible to it, he or she could be nominated.Applications for the ward are available at the Ministry for Women, Youth and Children. "After the closing date, applications would be reviewed by the panel and the winner will be announced on the first of January 2009 by the Governor General Sir Nathaniel Waena after delivering the New Year's Message," says Mr. Enriko.The winner of the Youth Award will then be able to participate in any youth program that will be organized by the Ministry until the next winner is announced for 2010.
