The football outreach programme, organized by the women's football committee of the Solomon Islands Football Federation (SIIF), is proving to be a huge hit with young girls in Honiara.

Yesterday morning Diane Justus, the Coordinator of the programme, visited Coronation School as part of the ongoing outreach programme. The programme, aimed at young girls, has had a good level of support from schools in Honiara.

She told Solomon Times that although twenty-six schools initially expressed their interest to participate "only 10 schools confirmed their participation in the school outreach programme."

She said that the main idea of the programme is to encourage young school children, and in particular, girls who are keen to play soccer, to get a "feel for the game."

"It's quite pleasing to see young girls enjoying themselves in the field which is a good sign because it shows that one day some of the little ones will become stars of our country," said Diane.

Diane also said that according to their annual plan, there would be a coaching session for teachers in schools in Honiara and organized competitions for primary schools and high schools in Honiara.
