The country's women organisation has called for a review of the country's laws dealing with violence against women and children.

National Council of Women General Secretary, Ella Kauhue, says existing laws are not effective in deterring perpetrators of domestic violence.

Ms. Kauhue says the National Council of Women is counting on the review of the countries penal code by the Law Reform Commission, particularly on areas relating to domestic violence.

She says adopting the reformed laws will be a step forward for the Solomon Islands.
