Women in the Western Province will be celebrating the Women's International Day at Gizo the Western Provincial capital next week.

The Director of the Women Development Division (WDD) Janet Tuhaika said the celebration is to mark the International Women's Day held annually on the 8th March throughout the world

However the International women's Day this year would be held next week at the request of the women in the Western Province.

The celebrations in Gizo will take place from the 22nd to 26th this month.

According to Mrs. Janet Tuhaika, this has been the first time for the Women's International Day to be celebrated in the Province.

She said the main aim of organizing the International Women's Day cerebrations was so women in the Province would know the issues affecting women globally.

The theme for this year is "Investing in Women and Girls."

Mrs Tuhaika added that the program will involve awareness talks on the rights of women, dancing competition and other activities organized by women throughout the Province.

According to Mrs. Tuhaika, both Choiseul and Western province were chosen because of the Tsunami that affected them.

The delegation from Honiara will be leaving for Gizo this weekend. They are the Permanent Secretary for Women, Youth and Children's Affairs. Mrs. Ethel Sigimanu and four members from the Women Development Division (WDD) who are the Director, Coordinator, a Western Province Officer and a media officer.

Mrs. Tuhaika revealed that other Province will have their turn in the coming years.
