The World Health Organisation in Solomon Islands has welcomed its new Country Representative.

The World Health Organization (WHO) Country Representative to Solomon Islands, Dr. Howard Sobel this week presented his credentials to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and External Trade (MFAET), Supervising Minister, Hon. Peter Shannel Agovaka at the office of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade.

Dr. Howard Sobel was accredited by Dr. Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, the Director-General of the World Health Organization, and Regional Director for the Western Pacific of the World Health Organization.

In presenting his credential, Dr Sobel said he is honored to take up his new role as the WHO Country Representative in the Solomon Islands to serve the government and people of Solomon Islands in the health sector.

Dr. Sobel said he is committed to the task that is in front of him and ensures WHO continues to provide support when and where needed to the Ministry of Health and Medical Services.

Supervising Minister Hon. Peter Shannel Agovaka upon receiving Dr Sobel’s credentials welcomes Dr Sobel while expressing sincere gratefulness and appreciation to the wonderful support that WHO continues to provide to the government through the Ministry of Health and Medical Services.

“We truly look forward to working with you throughout your tenure in Solomon Islands and hope that with your support we can continue to achieve better health outcomes for our people”, stated Mr. Agovaka.
