The West Pacific Regional Tennis Championship is currently underway in Port Vila where five countries that are participating are Fiji, Kiribati, Solomon Islands, Papua New Guinea (PNG) and Vanuatu.

“The age group participating in this event are the under 12, under 14 and under 16,” said the Media Officer of the Vanuatu Tennis Federation (VTF), Eva Boe.

“So far, all countries have played their first games. The under 14 and 16 played at the Holiday Inn and the under 12 played at the usual tennis field.”

Boe Said this tournament will determine if they can participate in another Pacific competition which is the Pacific Oceania championship (POC). The host country of the Pacific Oceania Championship has not been determined as yet.

“Since starting yesterday, the teams have been doing very well and we are expecting them to give their very best and improve on their games throughout this week,” she said.

Ms. Boe has acknowlegded combining the under 12, 14 and 16, as it encourages learning and sharing across the different age groups.

"Because they are the future of tennis in their country, it is best to shape their career and build it to be stronger now to allow them to advance further once they reach their youth and can represent their countries."

The games start yesterday and will end on the 6th this month.
