Workers of the Guadalcanal Plains Palm Oil Limited (GPPOL) are likely to go on strike pending decision from the government on increase of salary and danger allowances.

Solomon Times was informed that a meeting tomorrow, Sunday, will determine whether or not a strike will take place Monday.

A source said that all they want from the government is to see their needs "because we work very hard out in the fields and the salary is just so low".

The source said the strike should have taken place some time back but the government had requested that the workers give them one week to settle the matter.

"But nothing is happening and it looks like we will go on strike on Monday because we have waited long enough for the government to meet their promise," said the source.

Other workers voiced similar sentiment, telling Solomon Times "it is now time for action because we are tired of waiting".
