The people of North-East Guadalcanal say they plan to boycott the upcoming National Elections unless the road in their area is repaired or a new one built.

A spokesman from the area told SIBC they are serious about the boycott and have discussed this already with members of the area.

Malakai Veni says the road from Mbarande to Aola is full of potholes, needs drainage and the bridges are damaged.

He says it is badly in need of complete repair or reconstruction.

Mr Veni says the people find it very difficult to transport their market produces to town and often they have to change trucks or walk part of the way to board a vehicle.

He says the people are now calling on their respective members of Parliament, the Prime Minister Derek Sikua and Nollen Leni, to fulfill the promises they made to the people in previous years.
