Transparency Solomon Islands, TSI, is concerned that the termination of the Auditor General, Mr Edward Ronia, would impact negatively on the progress that has been made in the fight against corruption.

TSI, through a brief press statement, said that Mr Ronia has been playing an important role as Auditor General and saw no reason why he should be terminated.

TSI questioned why the Government House chose to terminate Mr Ronia's contract when it is expected to expire at the end of 2014.

TSI says that it is aware that Section 129 of the constitution provides a way for the contract of the Auditor General, or other constitutional post holders for that matter, to be extended beyond the age of 55.

It calls for an explanation as to why such a provision, which has been used quite extensively in the past, has not been used or considered by Government House.

TSI calls on the Public Service and the Governor General’s office to address this situation immediately - calling for the Auditor General to be reinstated so that he can continue the good work he started.
