Prime Minister of Solomon Islands, Dr Derek Sikua, said that his recent trip to Taipei Taiwan, to attend the inauguration of the 12th President of the Republic of China Mr. Ma Ying-jeou, was very successful.

"My attendance to the inauguration signifies the importance we attach to our bilateral and diplomatic relations with Taiwan and our commitment to continue to work closely with the new government of the Republic of China," said Dr. Sikua.

Dr. Sikua said that the visit also gave him the opportunity to say thank you to the
Outgoing President Mr. Chen Shuibian for his tremendous support and assistance to Solomon Islands in the past eight years.

The Prime Minister also expressed his firm commitment for Solomon Islands to build and further expand our relations with Taiwan, including diversifying our bilateral cooperation in trade, investments, and other related activities.

"I have also reiterated Solomon Islands continuing support for Taiwan's participation and recognition in the international community," says Dr Sikua.

Prime Minister Sikua said that President Ma also expressed similar sentiments in particular his governments desire to work closely and expand bilateral cooperation with Solomon Islands.
