Transparency Solomon Islands (TSI) has expressed its gratitude to colleagues, family, friends and admirers of the late Augustine Floyd Fatai for the support received in nominating the late Mr Fatai for the Transparency International Integrity Award.
Despite not being a recipient of the award, Mr. Fatai has earned the respect of Transparency International for his work. Transparency International has personally thanked those who nominated Mr Fatai for the Integrity Award. Stating that the committee was "moved by the achievements of Mr Fatai" and thankful that through the nomination of Mr Fatai his work and commitment to fighting corruption has gained global attention.Mr Fatai's nomination alone is testament to his work as the Auditor General of Solomon Islands between 2002 and his untimely death in 2008. Mr Fatai worked tirelessly to reduce corruption and improve transparency and accountability within Solomon Islands Government for which he always be remembered and honored.
The winners of the 2008 Integrity Award are Mr Roman Shleynov, Investigations Editor at Novaya Gazeta Newspaper in Russia and Mr David Leigh, Investigations Editor at the Guardian Newspaper in the United Kingdom who have been honored for their dedication to the fight against corruption.
