Solomon Islands Culture of Division will soon build a new National Art Gallery funded by the Solomon Islands Government through its Tourism sector.

Director of Culture Division, Robert Au, said ground works to build the National Art Gallery will begin this year.

He said that the new National Art Gallery is one of the main priorities of the Ministry of Culture and Tourism.

Mr. Au added that the new Art Gallery will also be one of the venues for accommodation during the South Pacific Arts Festival in 2012 which Solomon Islands will host.

Meanwhile, the Tourism division will soon utilize cultural promotion through the current media outlets in the country.

He said the promotion of culture through media is part of their work program to look at ways to enable people in Solomon Islands to see the importance of our culture.

Mr. Au said that it will also be a good opportunity for people to be aware of the importance of culture in preparation for the 2012 South Pacific Arts Festival.

Additional efforts will be introduced including provincial visits to strengthen cultural administrations and activities in the provinces.

The tourism sector will also visit schools around Honiara to promote culture "to help students value and appreciate our culture."
