Tourism Body Reactivated

The National Tourism Association Solomon Islands (NTASI) a non-profit tourism industry association which promotes products and service to its members held a two days tourism meeting for tourism operators in the country.

"NTASI's mission is to contribute to the growth, value and quality of travel and tourism to and within the Solomon Islands," says Mr. Maelaua, the General Manager for Destinations Solomons.

"There is a need to reactivate the association after it was founded in 2005 following a National Tourism Forum in 2004.

"The association was quite active in the provinces having established branches, however there is a need to reactivate it and keep the association active to voice out certain issues by other tourism operators, especially smaller operators," he says.

According to Mr. Maelaua, the association came across challenges after it lacked coordination among its members in previous years.

During the two day meeting, new executive members were selected into NTASI.

Solomon Times understands that seven members were selected into the executive. The name National Tourism Association Solomon Islands (NTASI) was also changed to Solomon Islands Tourism Industry Association (SITIA).
