With the theme, 'One Family Under God' the Global Peace Festival, despite contradictions, attracted thousands of youths in Solomon Island's capital, Honiara, flooding the Lawson Tama grounds.

The event was facilitated by the Universal Peace Federation headed by the Rev. Sun Myung Moon of Korea.

The day began with a parade from the Art Gallery to the Lawson Tama where various cultural dances from various provinces were performed and appearances by various local artists.

The Global Peace festival was particularly aimed at gathering young people to socialize, make friends and advocate for peace within their communities.

In his key note address, Hon. James Tora, the Minister for Home Affairs on behalf of the Prime Minister, said that today young people around the globe have come to work as volunteers to make peace among young Solomon Islanders.

He thanked the Universal Peace Federation for showing good governance and leadership adding that Solomon Islanders need more role models for peace, such as that of the young people volunteering for peace from various countries.

Hon. Augustine Taneko the Chairman of the Global Peace Festival Organizing Committee in his talk stated that under 'One family Under God' we can all live in harmony.

He urged leaders of this country to make a change before citizens can change for the better. He acknowledged the Universal Peace Federation for hosting the event which he said is the first time for a country like Solomon Islands to host such event.

Hon. Taneko concluded by saying that "Peace is not invented by man but it is from God."

The event began in the evening and continued late into the night.
